Anwar Khan

President of Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA).

Anwar is of Pakistani descent and grew up in England, but has lived in the US since 1994. He earned a degree in biochemistry in 1993 and then began working with Islamic Relief Worldwide. In 1994, he moved to the United States. Since then, he has aided in IRUSA’s expansion. He helped startup offices in the Los Angeles and Dallas areas to expand to additional locations across the country including headquarters in the Washington, D.C., area.

 

Anwar Khan’s  Story

 

 

Mr. Khan has extensive experience in the field that has informed his heartfelt and effective fundraising appeals. He has traveled to conflict and disaster zones including Bosnia, Chechnya, Gaza, Darfur, Haiti, and Pakistan. During some of his travels, he has delivered emergency aid. He has also traveled for development work in Africa and South Asia, visiting locations as remote as Timbuktu. In the United States, he helped set up a volunteer network that now constitutes several thousand people.

 

Currently, as Mr. Khan serves as President of IRUSA, and his previous positions within the organizations have included everything from Director of Programs to National Development Director of Fundraising to CEO. He is passionate about leading the organization forward into its next 25 years. In a letter to the IRUSA community, he reflected: “Our goals are the same as they were in the early days, but in some ways our work has come a long way from our origins. We believe that with you working with us, the next 25 years will be even better insha’Allah (God-willing).”
